Club Officers 2008
John Martin is entering his 3rd term as our Club President for 2008. He’s 41 years
old, married to Tammy for 14 yrs. with one daughter, Kaitlyn, who is 6 yrs old. John
spent 16 years as an engineering technician, including 6 years in the Navy as a
Sonar Technician on Submarines. He currently works as an RN at Covenant
Healthcare in Saginaw. The first model John built was at age 7 on Christmas day,
the model was later destroyed on that same day. He has been a member of our club
for 6 years. John is the one true "eclectic" modeler in the club in that he has loyalties
to no one area of modeling. “I pretty much like it all; cars, ships, planes, armor,
dioramas. I'm intrigued by everything.”
John Birdsall is our club vice-president. John is 49 yrs old, and has been in the club
from 1988 to 1999, then from 2004 and currently a member. He has been married to
Gloria for 6 years; he has 3 grown up children- Roberta 27, Mike 26, and Brandon 23.
John likes building custom and drag cars. "I like being in the club, I have great
friendship with all the club members, and its fun to be in!!!!!"
Mike Wood is our club Secretary/Treasurer. Mike is 54 years young, married for 35
years with one son, Adam, who is 24 and also an avid modeler. Mike works as a
model builder and tooling engineer for a thermo-forming company, and is interested
in model aircraft, spacecraft, and sailing ships. Mike is a founding charter member of
the club, and has held every office and appointed position. Outside of modeling, Mike
other passions- besides his loving family- include history and politics.
Dave Mason is starting his fourth year as club Newsletter Editor. Has been a
member for close to 8 years now. Dave is married to Denise, since 1990. He has 2
sons, Charlie and Joe, who are also members of the club. Dave drives trucks for a
living. He has driven Tow trucks of all sizes, driven semi's cross country and currently
local. He attempts to restore old cars and trucks in his spare time. Modeling interests
are Big Rigs, cars, aircraft, military. Dave says he’s willing to try anything at least
once!
“I am Charles J. Mason. I am the new club member representative. I’ve been a
member around 5 years. I’m 15 years old and attending Standish-Sterling High
School. I’m a member of the Boy Scouts of America and Venture Crew here in
Standish. My first model was a snap together semi truck called Shockwave. I build
automotive model kits, mostly late 60’s early 70’s GM vehicles. Last August my family
went on a trip to Anaheim CA for the IPMS Nationals where my brother, Joe, won an
award for his pickup. (His head won’t fit thru the door now) I’m currently building a
few surprises for the 2008 IPMS Nationals that are guaranteed to be award-winning
kits.”
Brian Francis is our IPMS Member Representative. Brian Francis (born the year of
the Cuban Missile Crisis) has been involved in IPMS Mid Michigan from the
beginning (when it was known as the 'Mid Michigan Military Modelers' instead of the
'Mid Michigan Model Makers'). Brian is currently serving as IPMS Contact. He
previously served as Contest Coordinator, Secretary-Treasurer, President and
Newsletter Editor. Involved in the annual contest he has also been head judge,
vendor contact and a category judge. Brian has built all model subjects. He seems
to be currently fascinated with armored vehicles from World War Two thru the Iraq
War. He has also built sailing ships, World War Two ships, 1/72 & 1/48 aircraft. He
tries to build for fun and personal satisfaction after building models professionally for
several years. He has also been known to collect large numbers of unbuilt kits from
his frequent visits to the mythical Dean's Hobby Stop. "My interest in models
definitely came from my love of history." Brian earned bachelor's and master's
degrees in history. He works at Dow Chemical in Midland in the IT security area.
Brian tried to involve both his nephews (Zach & Josh) in modeling from a young age.
Josh (now 16) has been involved in the contest and monthly meetings for a couple
years. Josh has won awards in the Junior category of the contest.

teacher in the City of Saginaw School District, and has been building models for 41
